About Us

Welcome to John Muir Elementary. We hope you quickly come to enjoy the strong sense of community among teachers, staff and fellow families, that a small, neighborhood school affords.
John Muir PTA

Our Mission

John Muir PTA is a supportive and compassionate voice for all, a powerful communication resource for our families and community, a transparent and respectable representation of our school and a strong advocate for the education and well-being of every student.

Our Story

We are a pro-active, transparent, community group, working closely with the principal to support objectives for students, teachers and families of John Muir. We are part of the district and state PTA; we serve our school and our greater community.

Where there is an ask, we answer.
Where there is a need, we give.
Where there is a call, we step up.

Our Community

Greetings John Muir Families,

Welcome to John Muir Elementary.  We hope you quickly come to enjoy the strong sense of community among teachers, staff and fellow families, that a small, neighborhood school affords.

Our kids are great, and they really do grow up fast! Placement at John Muir means small classroom size, friendly staff and neighborhood families, who all contribute to make each transition year-to-year easier, and school is like a second home.

So, whatever your story is, we ask that all families become members of PTA and support our school. PTA fundraising pays for classroom materials, transportation for field trips, books for the library, gardening and beautification and more. PTA can access grants for projects on campus, so each year there is an opportunity to bring an idea to life: this year we are planning for a creative writing program, after-school math instruction for students and parents; take home science kits; and “newsworthy” speakers at assemblies.

We have a very diverse community and celebrate together during cultural and social events— such as Hispanic Heritage Celebration, Halloween Carnival and Taste of Soul; we support our school’s arts, music and science programs; and we appreciate all the teachers and staff. We believe fundraising comes with a “thank you”— so come join us for a fun night out during Silent Auction; need a canvas tote? buy Spirit Wear and look great supporting your school; be part of the cheering crowd at Jog-a-thon as the young ones sweat it out for a good cause!

We are a pro-active, transparent, community group, working closely with the principal to support this year’s objectives for students, teachers and families of John Muir. We are part of the district and state PTA; we serve our school and our greater community.

Our partner in the school district is the Education Foundation (SMMEF), which enables equal access at all district schools to an enriched curriculum of arts, music and science, as well as teacher training and specialists on campus. We ask you to support John Muir PTA and SMMEF, to ensure continued high standards in our local public schools.

Once again we welcome you to John Muir. Please take a moment to look at the Calendar of Events, recognize ongoing sponsors and join us in creating a terrific year.
